12. What is the Council Tax premium?
The Council Tax premium is an additional charge on properties that have been either:
- unoccupied and unfurnished for at least 1 year or
- unoccupied and furnished also known as second/holiday homes.
Addressing housing challenges is a key priority set out in East Devon’s Council Plan for 2024-2028. We recognise the impact second homes and empty properties can have on our communities, where many local people are finding it increasingly difficult to secure affordable housing. As with many authorities both locally and nationally, East Devon has a shortage of properties available for those that need them.
