The climate emergency is a response to the urgent threat of climate change, acknowledging the need for immediate action to limit rising temperatures and prevent severe environmental and economic impacts. In 2019, the UK government declared a climate emergency, committing to reach net-zero emissions by 2050.
For our district, this means taking action to reduce our carbon footprint and adapt to climate impacts like flooding and extreme weather. We’re focused on promoting sustainable energy, improving energy efficiency, supporting green transport solutions, and involving local communities in climate action.
East Devon District Council have declared a 'Climate Emergency' and are a signatory to the Devon Climate Declaration. Our district council is dedicated to tackling the climate emergency through local initiatives that ensure a low-carbon future and a safer environment for future generations. We are working with residents and businesses to make this transition a reality.
