3. My landlord said I wouldn’t have to pay Business Rates

My landlord said I wouldn’t have to pay rates. Why have you sent me a bill? Your landlord may think you are entitled to rates relief which you have not yet applied for. See if you are eligible to claim a relief or reduction.

My rent is inclusive of Business Rates so why do I get a bill? Liability for Business Rates rests with the person entitled to beneficial occupation (normally the occupier) of a property, irrespective of any third party agreement.

You should discuss this with your landlord, as agreements between landlords and their tenants are a matter between themselves and are not binding on us in the event of any dispute between those parties.
