15. Completion
What we will do
We will undertake a completion inspection and if reasonably satisfied that there are no outstanding conditions or contraventions and all relevant certificates and documentation is in order then we will issue a Completion certificate.
The Completion certificate is evidence, but not conclusive evidence that the building work complies with the Building regulations.
The Completion certificate is a legal document, without which the applicant (owner) may have difficulty selling the property, gaining a mortgage on the property and in some cases this can affect building insurance cover and premiums.
What we will not do
We will not send out a completion certificate until compliance with The Building Regulations has been shown and all outstanding fees have been paid.
What you will need to do (including a builder, architect or agent acting for you)
You will need to provide us with a Completion Statement within 5 days of the work being competed.
You will be provided with a blank completion statement with your acknowledgement letter. You will need to complete this statement and return it to us either as a scanned copy which you can email to buildingcontrol@eastdevon.gov.uk or by post to Building Control, East Devon District Council, Blackdown House, Border Road, Heathpark Industrial Estate, Honiton, EX14 1EJ.
If you no longer have the copy that was sent to you with your acknowledgement letter, you can download a copy.
