InformationCranbrook Town Centre Masterplan

Cranbrook's town centre is of critical importance to ensuring that the community has the social, cultural and leisure buildings and facilities that they need to thrive and for the town centre to be a vibrant and inviting place to visit.

In late 2023 the council consulted with people living and working in the town to better understand what they want to see happen in the town centre. There was an excellent level of response, with more than 1,400 people taking part. A report was published to share the findings of the consultation and can be read on the website for the Exeter and East Devon Enterprise Zone, which the town centre is part of: Cranbrook Town Centre consultation

Working closely with Cranbrook Town Council, Devon County Council and other stakeholders, a masterplan has now been produced to tell the story of how the town centre will develop. The masterplan takes into account the findings of the 2023 community consultation and other information available from stakeholders about their needs and wants for services in the town. The masterplan does not identify uses for every piece of land as it is important to have flexibility to cater for the changing desires of the community and the needs of the economy.

The masterplan does identify locations for The Tillhouse (Cranbrook Town Council's community building), a leisure centre and a health and wellbeing centre. These latter two facilities were identified as highly important to the community in the 2023 consultation. In addition, space for Cranbox has been shown in the masterplan. Cranbox is proposed as a modular development for community and commercial space and in November 2024 it was announced that the project has received funding as part of Devon and Torbay's devolution deal: Cranbox press release 7 November 2024

On 29 October 2024 the council's Strategic Planning Committee endorsed the masterplan as an evidence document to be used by project teams looking to build facilities in the town centre. It will also be used by the council in determining planning applications for buildings and other development in the town centre.
