What is Biodiversity?
Biodiversity means the variety of all living things – like animals, plants, fungi, and tiny organisms – and the places where they live. A healthy environment needs lots of different species to stay balanced and strong.
Why Biodiversity Matters for Climate Change
Biodiversity is a key part of nature and helps protect the environment from the effects of climate change. As the climate changes, it puts pressure on local wildlife, plants, and the places they live. That’s why it’s so important to look after and restore our natural spaces.
East Devon District Council understands how important biodiversity is in tackling climate change. It helps by storing carbon, keeping temperatures stable, supporting pollination (which helps crops grow), and cleaning our water and air.
By protecting nature and encouraging biodiversity, we’re helping our local area cope better with climate change – and creating a healthier place for both people and wildlife to live.
Biodiversity is an important focus and consideration throughout our operations. For more information, visit our pages on Biodiversity Net Gain in the Planning Process and Ecological Surveys and Reports. Also be sure to check out information on our efforts for Improving Green Spaces for Wildlife.
