I am struggling to pay my rent
Housing Benefit
Housing Benefit is money from the government to help people pay rent. If you rent a council home and don’t earn much, you might be able to get this help.
To find out how much you could get and how to apply, visit our?benefits and support page.
The government has made some big changes to Housing Benefit. You can read more about these changes on our?Welfare Reform?page.
Universal Credit
Universal Credit is a new benefit that replaces Housing Benefit and some other payments. It started in East Devon in 2018.
If you get Universal Credit and qualify for help with rent, the money will go into your bank account. You’ll need to pay your rent yourself, unless you’ve asked for it to go straight to your landlord.
