How we choose to travel has a major impact on the environment. From daily commutes to weekend adventures, adopting low-carbon travel options can significantly reduce your carbon footprint — while often saving money and improving your health too.

Transport accounts for around a quarter of the UK’s carbon dioxide emissions — with road transport alone contributing over 115 million tonnes each year. By rethinking how we travel, whether for work or leisure, we can make a big impact on reducing our personal carbon footprints.

Explore East Devon by Bike

East Devon is a designated National Landscape — and there’s no better way to enjoy its natural beauty than on two wheels. With scenic routes suitable for all abilities, cycling is a great way to reduce emissions, improve your health, and see more of the countryside. There's a great selection of routes to choose from, have a look here: Cycling - East Devon National Landscape (eastdevonaonb.org.uk).

Plan Your Cycle Commute

Want to cycle to work but unsure of the best route? This journey planner can help you find the safest and most efficient paths. Pop in your starting point and destination into this Journey Planner | Cycling UK and it will produce a map with the best route to take, along with detailed instructions.

Catch the Bus

Switching even one car journey a week for a bus ride can reduce your emissions and ease congestion. Use Stagecoach’s journey planner to find routes, timetables, and fares.
Stagecoach has a handy bus journey planner that will give you all the information you need, including the bus number and what times they run. All you need to do is type in where you're going from and where you're going to.

Share the Journey

If you need to drive, why not share the ride? Car sharing helps reduce the number of vehicles on the road, cuts fuel costs, and lowers emissions. Make your commutes that bit simpler, have a look at the Carshare Devon community - part of the Liftshare network to register and link up with people taking the same journeys as you.

Drive Electric

Making the switch to an electric vehicle? Use this UK-wide map to locate charging points in East Devon and beyond: Map of Electric Car Charging Points – Zapmap.
