Mentoring

The mentoring element of the StartSmart programme is delivered by Exeter Innovation Accelerator, University of Exeter.

Expert mentoring is a core part of the StartSmart programme. We connect business founders and entrepreneurs with experienced mentors who can offer practical, specialist guidance at key moments in their start-up journey.
Whether you’re tackling a specific challenge or exploring a new opportunity, our mentors help you move forward with confidence.

What Mentors Help With

Mentorship engagements are focused and outcome-driven, typically supporting areas such as:

  • Business development and sales
  • Strategy and growth
  • Team development and leadership

Based on the agreed scope, we match you with a mentor who has the right experience.

We bring you and your mentor together in a facilitated session to align expectations and confirm objectives.

You receive up to 12 hours of tailored mentoring over a period of up to 3 months, arranged directly between you and your mentor.

If Mentoring Isn’t the Right Fit

If we determine that mentoring isn’t the most suitable form of support, the EIA team will work with you to identify alternative pathways that better meet your needs.
